Asphalt Calculator
Use this calculator to estimate how many cubic yards of asphalt you need for paving projects. Simply enter the width, length, and thickness of your project.
Enter Dimensions
How It Works
- Enter the area's width and length in feet
- Enter the asphalt thickness in inches
- The calculator converts the thickness from inches to feet
- Calculates the volume in cubic feet (width × length × thickness)
- Converts the volume to cubic yards (cubic feet ÷ 27)
Formula: (Width × Length × Thickness/12) ÷ 27 = Cubic Yards
Tips & Notes
- Add 5-15% extra asphalt to account for compaction and waste
- For driveways, a 2-3" thickness is typically sufficient
- For roadways, 4-6" is recommended depending on traffic load
- For irregularly shaped areas, break the project into regular shapes and calculate each separately
